BEYOND COLOR
This is the second summer that Justice Talking book groups are being held in conjunction with College Hill Community Church. This year we have two groups, each meeting one evening in June, July and August, one reading Dreams From My Father by Barack Obama, and the other reading Take This Bread by Sara Miles.
Dreams From My Father was written by President Barack Obama when he was a student at Harvard Law School and is a memoir of his growing up as a bi-racial American and how he came to terms with his heritage. To be facilitated by Josephine Laury of College Hill and Nancy Tepfer of Cross Creek, this group will meet at Nancy's home in Beavercreek (e-mail dtepfer@ameritech.net for directions) on the following dates:
Tuesday, July 21st, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 18th, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Take This Bread was written by Sara Miles, a lesbian, atheist, restaurant owner, and writer, and tells her story of unexpectedly being radically transformed after participating in communion, a transformation that led her to start a food pantry. Cross Creek’s own Feeding Friends food pantry was born out of the group that read this book last summer.
To be facilitated by Vann Rogers of College Hill and David Lauri of Cross Creek, this group will meet at David's home in downtown Dayton (e-mail david@davidlauri.com for directions) on the following dates:
Tuesday, July 21st, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 25th, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
